Expanding our reach across the nation

Coast to Coast Swimming

Team Hydro has expanded beyond San Francisco Bay to bring hydrocephalus awareness to new communities. From Boston's historic harbor to the Potomac River in our nation's capital, we're spreading our mission across America.

Boston Harbor Swim

Historic Waters, Modern Mission

Team Hydro's first Boston Harbor swim in 2013 brought together researchers, teachers, students, and business professionals for a stunning crossing from Piers Park Sailing Center in East Boston to the John Joseph Moakley US Federal Courthouse at Fan Pier in South Boston. The event was so successful that Team Hydro returned to Boston Harbor six times, making it a cherished annual tradition.

Boston holds special significance as a center for biomedical research, including hydrocephalus treatment. Boston Children's Hospital, where Kate was born in 1984, pioneered many effective hydrocephalus treatments and continues groundbreaking research in the field. This beautiful harbor swim connects our mission directly to the medical community advancing the science we desperately need.

Potomac River Swim

Little Falls Penguins Reunion

Little Falls bridge over Potomac River

When Kate's former Little Falls teammates learned of her passing in 2010, they reconnected over Facebook to share memories of their "skinny and sweet, but inexplicably determined" teammate. These former Penguins wanted to join Team Hydro's Alcatraz swim but found cross-country travel challenging.

Their solution was brilliant: bring Team Hydro east. When organizers announced a Potomac swim, the Little Falls teammates jumped at the chance to create Team Hydro: Potomac. This nearly 2-mile crossing from Maryland to Virginia embodied the same principles that made Team Hydro special—skill, compassion, and dedication united behind an important cause.
